Due South
Atra (atrata on DW/LJ): "The Train Goes Slow" (Fraser/Kowalski. "Ray is patience fucking personified, and he hasn't wanted to punch Fraser in days. " Perfectly canonical and perfectly original, all at the same time. Ray's voice is particularly wonderful here, in all its jittery frustration, and Benton...god, yeah, that's him entirely. Oh, and did I mention 'hotness?' because if I didn't, I should have. Two thumbs up...and possibly more *g*)
Harry Potter
Albalark (albalark on LJ): "In the Midst of Life" (Snape. "The past is never really past." A wonderfully wrought story of hate and love and bitterness and sorrow - and what it means to be the child of Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape.)
Delphi (atdelphi on LJ/delphi on DW): "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" (McGonagall/Snape. "Six vignettes set when the whole wide world is fast asleep." So incredibly lovely. Side note: honestly, I sometimes think I should just create a separate page on my recs journal labeled "Delphi" and on the page it would just say "go read everything she's written. Someday, I just might. *g*)
Leela (leela_cat on LJ): "The Other Half" (Tobias, Severus, Eileen. "He's long and skinny, and his nose seems to be a combination of the worst of both Eileen's and mine. Poor little sod will never live that one down. His skin, though, is the softest I've ever felt. Brushing my stained, scarred finger over his cheek feels like a crime, but I can't stop myself." First sweet, then bittersweet. An excellent portrait of Tobias Snape.)
perverse_idyll (perverse_idyll on LJ): "The Lost World" (Harry/Snape "His son may have found the garden, but Harry's the one who keeps going back." A fairy tale, of sorts, for readers who don't particularly like fairy tales and - if they did - would only seek one out from the time before fairy tales were softened, watered down, made...safe. This story is a mystery, hydra-headed, erotic, sometimes gentle and sometimes the very antithesis of gentleness. And as for the quality of the writing, well...I read most of this story out loud to myself, which is something I've never done before with a work of fanfiction; I was...compelled. Content info: Adultery, technically. And more to the point, anything but a happy ending. Still...this should absolutely be read!)
windwingswrites (windwingswrites on LJ): "An Exercise in Futility" - with perfect illustrations by capepfir! (Harry/Ginny, Snape...then Harry/Snape. "Sometimes you can only help yourself by helping the others. Sometimes when you're helping others, you realize that it's you who needs help." A great - initially horrid - Snape, believable Harry, and a strong Ginny...and honestly, this would have worked as gen just as well, but still!)
James Bond
Froggimus Rex (froggimus_rex on LJ): "If Headaches Persist, Shoot Your Agent" (Casino Royale - 2006. M, James. "Bond's a headache even at the best of times, but he's M's headache." Office politics as foreplay.)
lonelywalker (lonelywalker on LJ): "A View from the Sidelines" (Casino Royale - 2006. M's husband, M, Bond. "M's husband meets Bond. British hospitality ensues." A fascinating, if lowkey, look at M's life from the pov of her husband...who, in another era, would be her wife. Content info: Adultery, if you worry about that with fictional characters.)
pwrofbauer (moofoot on LJ): "someone to come home to" (Casino Royale - 2006. M, James. "Bond may be a lone wolf in the field, but even the strongest men need a woman in their life sometimes. (Even if only to make you a sandwich and pour you a glass of wine or three.)" A really lovely, gentle homecoming story. Would M really have time to do this? Unlikely, but I could not possibly care less. *g*)
Lewis
Sarren (sarren on DW): "Roses are Red" (Lewis/Hathaway. "Valentine's Day has never been very special." The author has tagged this story as "fluff," and of course it is, and yet...if you're sometimes in the mood for something sweet and first-timey and fluffy - i.e., if you're anything like me - this is definitely the story to read. *g*)
RPF - Fashion Designers
smithereens (smithereens on LJ): "Involuntary Response" (On the Road with Austin & Santino Santino Rice/Austin Scarlett. "In which reality TV is not as much like summer camp as Santino had previously believed." Set after the cancellation [*sob*] of the series. A little arch, a little sweet...just right!)
Sherlock Holmes
Candle Beck (candle_beck on LJ): "The Other Way of the World" (RDJ Films. Watson/Holmes. "A long night in a vicious city." This begins with a mystery surrounding Holmes' recent behavior, and the tale that follows is wonderfully evocative, with a Watson who not only knows Holmes' methods: he knows Holmes)
Candle Beck (candle_beck on LJ): "A Terribly Poor Understanding of Love" (RDJ Films. Watson/Mary, Watson/Holmes. "Two wrongs don't make a right; it takes at least three." Watson has married and Holmes is...having a difficult time adjusting; thank goodness for this [preternaturally] insightful Mary. *g* )
Pip (littlepippin76 on LJ): "The Empty House" (BBC. John, Mycroft, Sherlock, Lestrade. "[...the] what and why and how relating to all the lovely cliffhangers from Reichenbach" Clever and engaging. And let's say...pre-slash?)
P.R. Zed (przed on LJ): "Nothing Worth Having" (RDJ Films. Watson/Mary, Watson&Holmes. "When Watson is kidnapped, Holmes and Mary must come to an accommodation." Loyal, loving, brave...and that's just Mary. Just the right tone.)
thesardine: "Action Man" (BBC. Gen. Mycroft, Sherlock, etc. "He’d known long ago that Sherlock would never see forty. It was written all over him." Post-Reichenbach, but most of the story is Mycroft's childhood pov, considering Sherlock. Touching, but...bleak.)
zauzat (zauzat on LJ): "The Third One" (BBC. Lestrade-centric gen. "Lestrade has no idea what he meant to Sherlock. " Post-Reichenbach. One of those 'tipping point' moments, where you can see somebody's thought processes start to move down a new path. Really nicely done.)
