Please note that while my current rec policy is to try and include story warnings, I make no guarantees. Generally speaking, there's little of a dark or violent nature to warn for in these stories, but...caveat lector. If you believe addition content information should be added to the rec, leave a comment below.

A.j. (aj on LJ): "This Ain't A Red Lobster (The Speed-Dating Misadventures of One Timothy Gunn)" "Tim gets back on the dating horse in a rather unique way." (yes, RPF, but...Tim Gunn is so sweet that he needs to be in this story!)

Aquila (puella_nerdii on LJ/DW): "Still Climbing After Knowledge Infinite" (Shakespeare/Marlowe, others. "How much of the play is the playwright? In which Will Shakespeare meets Kit Marlowe, and in searching for Kit's voice, begins to discover his own." A smart and engaging tale, set against a perfectly believable early modern political backdrop. Meanwhile, I'd probably be just as attracted to this Kit as much as Shakespeare was. *g*)

astolat (astolat on LJ): "Time Of Your Life" (David Cook/David Archuleta...and as astolat notes: 100000000% fiction. The season's over, Cook's the new Idol, and the tour is starting. That won't be the only thing starting if Archie gets his wish, but that might be easier said than done since he's never even kissed before. Funny. Perfectly voiced. Hot. And I really can't believe I'm reccing this *g*)

black_eyedgirl (black_eyedgirl on LJ): "We are half of the equation" (Ryan Seacrest/Simon Cowell. "It's not a political statement, or because there's finally a guy who's worth it. It's just that Ryan's a bad actor, and he'll slip eventually, and he might as well do it on his own terms." Utterly believable and entertaining)

Candle Beck (candle_beck on LJ): "The Rest of Your Life" (Baseball RPF. Eric Chavez/Eric Munson. "Two boys grow up." An older story - from 2004 - recently reposted on AO3, but it still works perfectly. We're first introduced to these two men the day they meet - just children at the park - and honestly, if you're any kind of a baseball fan, this story will feel utterly right, from beginning to end. You will care from the very start, and I say this as somebody who generally has little interest in the dreams and aspirations of kids/teens in fic. I will say that I don't think I've cried so much from 'feelings' during the course of reading a single story in ages - and this is an extremely long story, so...yeah, a lot of crying. Content information - including a major spoiler for the end of the fic: a lot of alcohol use/abuse, some fights, infidelity on both men's parts since both get married during the course of the story and the story does not end in a traditional happily-ever-after way, although I still thought it was a great - and believable - ending.)

Circadienne (circadienne on LJ): "Every Land" ("Clark was -- oh, hell, Clark was as he had always been, about Lewis." A really brilliant look at the time of the U.S.'s expansion West though the eyes of characters - Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea, in particular - who are richly layered and wonderfully human, in a way no history textbook could ever show them to be. Plus, there's Lewis/Clark - presented in an entirely non-anachronistic way. Excellent work.)

doctor_denmark (doctor_denmark on DW): "Enough to Crush Your Veins" (Hockey. Jeff Skinner/Eric Staal. "When Canadian figure skater Jeff Skinner wrecked his knee, he never could have imagined that he'd end up helping pay his way through college as a live-in babysitter for Eric Staal's three-year-old son, Joey. AU obviously, since Skinner during this time frame was actually the Canes' baby-faced rookie. Charming story in a very old-school romance way and quite touching at times. Nice family interactions for Jeff and Eric - plus Eric’s teammates read realistically - and Eric's son actually seems his age, along with being adorable)

emilyenrose: "Descent" (Emperor Augustus/Marcus Tullius Cicero the Younger. "The greatest treat of all was sitting on his father’s lap to add his signature to the bottom of a letter to Atticus while his father corrected his spelling: kappa iota kappa epsilon, the pen slipping in his chubby hand, rho omicron nu. Cicero the younger sends his greetings to Titus the Athenian." As the archive tag says: 'daddy issues.' Insightful and well worth reading even if you aren't a particular fan of the Cicero family)

harriet_vane: "Better With You" (One Direction. Liam/Louis. AU. "Single parent and solo artist Liam Payne hires Louis Tomlinson to be a full time nanny to his four year old son Sammy." The author refuses to apologize for writing this, and I refuse to apologize for reccing it. I'm...not a particular fan of One Direction? I mean, I don't dislike them, but I know exactly one and a half of their songs and have seen a five minute interview. But this story is adorable and just right if you're in a domestic kid!fic sort of mood.)

impertinence (impertinence on LJ): "Ballad of a Broken Bromance" (Hockey RPF. Jeff Carter/Mike Richards. "Jeff's used to playing with Richie; they've done it since they were 17. He signs a contract with Philly thinking he'll win a Cup there, with Richie. Then they're traded away from each other - and it turns out, that's just the beginning. The sweep, the trade, the SECOND trade, and what happens after." Drinking and fucking girls they picked up in bars and not talking about their feelings for each other and really? These are just the kind of guys I probably wouldn't want to spend any time with in real life. But in this story, god, these boys - these totally uncommunicative douches - are kind of perfect. Yeah, I got a little weepy on occasion. Note: this is, um...based on a true story)

just_jes (just_jes on DW): Untitled Comment Fic (American Idol. Simon Cowell/Ryan Seacrest. No more than a ficlet, really. A kid!fic response to a prompt, and surprisingly true to quite sweet)

shihadchick (shihadchick on LJ/DW): "Play Along" (Hockey RPF. Duncan Keith/Brent Seabrook. ""I bet you a hundred bucks," Sharpy says, gesturing with his drink to punctuate how very serious he is about this suggestion, "that I can pick up the next person who walks in that door before you can." / Duncan Keith probably shouldn't have taken that bet." A classic 'first time' slash story, featuring the old school 'pretending to be dating' trope, but still manages to feel fresh...and very sweet.)

smithereens (smithereens on LJ): "Involuntary Response" (On the Road with Austin & Santino Santino Rice/Austin Scarlett. "In which reality TV is not as much like summer camp as Santino had previously believed." Set after the cancellation [*sob*] of the series. A little arch, a little sweet...just right!)

staraflur (staraflur on LJ/laserpants on tumblr): "tied if we stay" (Hockey - Blackhawks. Toews/Kane. "It takes 140 characters or less and one absolute fucking moron to change Jon's entire life forever. / He should have known all along it would be Kaner. It always is." A "Bromance with benefits" that becomes public with the help of twitter. A great blend of real 'guy feelings' with real 'guy cluelessness.')

svmadelyn (svmadelyn on LJ): "It's a Love Story, Baby, Just Say Yes" (Hockey. Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane/OMC(s). "Kaner tries to fuck his way out of love. That goes as well as you might imagine." There's a bachelor auction and...yeah, of course your vaguely drunk teammate is going to bid on you because he really, really doesn't want you to meet your future wife on the auction block. Kind of adorable and kind of funny and kind of woeful - so much understandable pining! - and, you know, sex.)

thehoyden (thehoyden on LJ): "Tour de Force" (Hockey RPF. Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, various other Blackhawks. "“Write what you know” was good enough advice for Jo March, so it’s good enough for Patrick Kane." A hockey player as a 'secret genius' of a novelist may seem unlikely (*g*), but the way he and his team-mates feel about the game rings entirely true. Sweet and charming and altogether happy-making. You know, the usual sorts of adjectives used to discuss hockey. *g*)

Toft (toft_froggy on LJ): "De Amicitia" (Cicero/Atticus. "Atticus and Cicero's friendship in its early years" Cicero and Atticus were clearly meant to be, or so I thought since first reading Cicero's letters. Perfect characterizations and wonderfully written)

wendywatson: “You and Me and New York City” (Actor RPF. Jeremy Renner/Scarlett Johansson. “Jeremy has a list of concerns to work through before signing on to do "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." Scarlett's got a list of reasons he should ignore them.” Lovely and exactly what I was in the mood to read on the day I found this story. Good voices - for certain values of ‘whatever I know of their real voices’ *g* - great sense of place, and the dynamic between Renner and Johansson is an excellent mix of banter and flirtation and sex and friendship. Note: as of this rec, there’s still a chance that Renner and Johansson might be performing together on Broadway in the spring of 2013. We’ll see. *crosses fingers*)

XiDu: "The Seventh Circle" "The Seventh Circle of Hell contains the violent against God, Nature, and Art. In the aftermath of the Pazzi Conspiracy, Lorenzo de' Medici is ready to take his place in Hell - alongside Sandro Botticelli." (Why look! More RPF, but of a much older vintage. Lorenzo de' Medici is my historical crush...and this is wonderfully true to the era.)
